Aconitum

Stunning blue color!

The tall, spiky plants of Aconitum, or Monkshood, bear hooded flowers held along long stems. The dark green foliage is deeply divided. This long-blooming garden plant prefers rich, moist soil. Avoid planting it in hot locations and burning sun. Deadhead to the lateral buds and keep fertilized to encourage a second round of flowers. A mulch is beneficial for moisture retention. Once established, leave plants undisturbed. Tall varieties may require staking. Please note: All parts of Aconitum are toxic if eaten. When pruning or handling, do not get juice from the plant into your mouth or open wounds. Wash hands immediately after cutting plants back.
