Helleborus

These unusual perennials bloom in mid-winter in mild climates and late winter or early spring in areas where the ground freezes hard. All require moist, highly organic, well drained alkaline soil. They are sometimes slow to establish but are long-lived, preferring not to be disturbed once planted.
