Cardinal Flower. Few plants can match the intense red color of this native prairie plant. Out of basal rosettes of deep bronze-green, lance-shaped leaves shoot purplish stems bearing spiked clusters of brilliant red, 1-1/2 inch, two-lipped flowers. Best color is obtained when planted in a site with morning sun only.
